The last super blue moon was recent — August 2023 — but the next one won't happen until 2037, according to NASA.
The 2023 Super Blue Moon occurred on Wednesday, August 30.
When it happened: The full moon on August 30, 2023 was a super blue moon, meaning it was both a supermoon and a blue moon.
Supermoon: The moon was closer to Earth in its orbit, making it appear slightly larger and brighter.
Blue moon: The second full moon in a calendar month. The term "blue moon" has nothing to do with color.
What else was happening: The moon was near Saturn. It also coincided with the Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan and fell near the middle of the month in many traditional calendars.
